In response to massive protests over the harsh immigration raids that have shook Southern California, the Trump administration decided to send the National Guard to Los Angeles on Saturday night.
“We’re mobilising already. Tonight, we will bring in the National Guard and carry on with our duties. In an interview with Fox News, so-called border czar Tom Homan stated, “This is about enforcing the law.”
The action was taken when communities in Paramount and downtown Los Angeles were being interrupted by tear gas, flashbangs and clashes between protestors, including union leaders, and heavily armed federal authorities.
This is not an isolated event; rather, it is a component of Operation Safeguard, a national campaign to strengthen immigration enforcement that was initiated in January. The next step in Trump’s plan to militarise raids, quell protest, and instill terror in sanctuary communities is the deployment of the National Guard in LA.
By the way, ICE would receive billions of dollars in funding under Trump’s “big beautiful bill.”
A strong pushback is being formed by an expanding combination of organisers, members of the 50501 movement, church organisations, unions, and municipal authorities. They are calling for a stop to militarised deportations, accountability for brutal tactics, and the immediate departure of federal forces.
