Currently committed to Alabama, Florida State is making a last-ditch effort to sign a five-star offensive tackle.
Steve Wiltfong of On3 claims that the Seminoles are one of three teams attempting to acquire Ty Haywood, the top offensive lineman. His skills are also being sought by Texas Tech and Michigan.
Over the summer, Haywood made a commitment to Alabama, but he chose not to sign with the Crimson Tide during the Early Signing Period. It is anticipated that he would provide his talents to another program on Wednesday, February 5, the traditional National Signing Day.

Herb Hand Discusses Seeing Mike Norvell Again at FSU
“Mike Norvell and the Seminoles are trying to recruit you if you can play,” Wiltfong stated earlier this week, referring to those who did not sign a Letter of Intent. “Obviously, they’ve been working with Ty Haywood for a while, and they have new coaches on staff for him to get to know, especially on the offensive line, but Florida State is also interested in him. Would other schools be able to accommodate him? We know that Florida State, Texas Tech, and Michigan are interested in the Alabama commit, so I wouldn’t be surprised.
A potential that Florida State has been pursuing for a while is the Texas native. Haywood received an offer from the Seminoles in February 2023. In April 2024, he visited the school, and he returned in June for his last official visit before verbally committing to Alabama.
The circumstances in Tallahassee have changed significantly since Haywood’s previous visit. FSU has a new offensive coordinator and offensive line coach. Whether he will return to campus before writing his first letter in a few weeks is still up in the air.
In the 2025 class, 247Sports ranks the 6-foot-5, 280-pound offensive tackle as the No. 4 OT, the No. 18 overall prospect, and the No. 6 recruit in Texas. Haywood is the only five-star recruit in his class who has not signed a contract yet.
In 2025, 11 scholarship offensive linemen from Florida State are eligible to return: redshirt senior Jacob Rizy, redshirt senior Richie Leonard IV, redshirt senior Bryson Estes, redshirt senior TJ Ferguson, redshirt junior Jaylen Early, redshirt sophomore Andre’ Otto, redshirt sophomore Lucas Simmons, redshirt freshman Manasse Itete, redshirt freshman Jon Daniels, redshirt freshman Tye Helton and redshirt freshman Jayden Todd.
Three-star Sean Poret and four-star Mario Nash Jr. were signed by the Seminoles during the Early Signing Period. Adrian Medley (UCF), Luke Petitbon (Wake Forest), Micah Pettus (Ole Miss), and Gunnar Hansen (Vanderbilt) are the other four transfers the program has attracted.
