As a lifelong animal enthusiast, Robert Plant has developed a close relationship with his pets, particularly his canines, throughout the years. Strider, a cherished collie named after the Lord of the Rings character Aragorn (originally called Strider), was one of his most famous canines.
In the Led Zeppelin song “Bron-Y-Aur Stomp” from Led Zeppelin III (1970), Plant even made mention to Strider. With phrases like “Ain’t no companion like a blue-eyed merle,” the lyrics extol the virtues of freedom and camaraderie.
The song itself was influenced by Plant and Jimmy Page’s time spent writing music in the bucolic, rural surroundings of Bron-Yr-Aur, a secluded cottage in Wales.
Over the years, Plant has remained a dog enthusiast and has been frequently spotted with various canines.
