Super Bowl 59 was a TV extravaganza as much as a game. On Sunday night, Fox attracted a record-breaking 126 million people on digital, streaming, and television platforms. The second quarter (8:00–8:15 p.m. ET) saw a peak viewership of 135.7 million, breaking the previous year’s record of 123.7 million for the Kansas City Chiefs vs. San Francisco 49ers game.
Fox’s Tubi simulcast, which attracted 13.6 million viewers—more than anticipated—helped increase this year’s show. Although Tubi’s audience was predicted to be limited to 8.5 million, the actual turnout demonstrates how much digital streaming is changing NFL ratings. The final Nielsen figures, which are anticipated on Tuesday, might push the amount much higher.
Multiple broadcast platforms and Tubi’s Super Bowl debut drove viewership to all-time highs.
Tubi caused a stir when it simulcast the first-ever Super Bowl on Fox’s FAST channel. A record 13.6 million people watched that. It wasn’t only Tubi, though; Fox had an advantage thanks to its astute usage of digital NFL channels and other streaming services like Fox Deportes. With their Nickelodeon and Paramount+ feeds, CBS’s efforts from the previous year were surpassed by this approach.
For the third consecutive year, Super Bowl attendance has broken all previous records. The final Fox game between the Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs drew 115.1 million viewers in 2023. On CBS and Paramount+, 123.4 million people watched the Chiefs play the 49ers the next season. This year? It simply continued to grow.
During and after the game, A.J. Brown, Nick Sirianni, and Patrick Mahomes garner media attention off the field.
Despite the Kansas City Chiefs’ failure to win, Patrick Mahomes caught everyone’s attention with a tearful, “worst feeling in the world” moment on the sidelines. Nick Sirianni, the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, dispelled any offseason speculation that he was splitting from offensive coordinator Kellen Moore. He put an end to rumors about the New Orleans Saints by saying he wants to “run it back” the following season.
More attention was also drawn to A.J. Brown’s side ritual with the book Inner Excellence. His teammates now seem to swear by it. It has become commonplace after reading aloud from passages before to games. You can’t argue with the outcome, can you?
