Carol Vorderman ‘went missing’ after death of TV star friend
“It was a few weeks later,” Carol started, shedding tears at the recollection and cautioning, “This will start me off.”
Speaking candidly, Carol Vorderman described how she felt overwhelmed after fellow Countdown star Richard Whiteley passed away and “went missing.”
The 63-year-old LBC host disclosed a period when she “disappeared” while talking about the subject with Paul Joseph, head of Missing People’s helplines.
Carol explained that her children were living with her ex-husband at the time of Whiteley’s death, and that she was unable to deal with it and booked herself into a hotel room.
“It was a few weeks later,” Carol started, shedding tears at the recollection and cautioning, “This will start me off.”
She went on, “Richard Whiteley passed away.” He passed away unexpectedly, and I was unable to deal. I was unable to handle it.
“I couldn’t handle being in the spotlight about it.” I had no idea what to do. All I had to do was vanish. I didn’t want anybody I knew in my vicinity. I simply got into the car and went, finding a hotel along the way. I was carrying nothing at all.
Then she said, “I had my purse.” I shut down and turned off my phone. After that, I felt better. All I needed to do was gather my thoughts. I recognize that some people believe that to be their only choice.
I am sharing this tale for the first time since there is no shame associated with it. There’s no guilt since, as far as I can tell, everyone has such moments occasionally.
Whiteley passed away in 2005 at the age of 61 from cardiac issues. He passed away soon after being brought to Leeds Royal Infirmary with pneumonia.
Over the course of their 20-year working partnership, Whiteley and Carol co-hosted Countdown from the show’s debut in 1982 until his passing.
“39 years ago today I started on the telly with my beloved Richard Whiteley on Countdown as the first ever show broadcast on the new channel @Channel4”, Carol posted after Whiteley passed away.
Carol went on, “I was 21.” Before his death, we shared 23 witty, joyful, and laughing years together. The time passed too quickly, and I still miss him.
The topic of missing persons is being discussed as Tenerife authorities continue their search for Jay Slater, a 19-year-old apprentice bricklayer who disappeared on Monday, June 17, during the NRG music festival.
Jay’s violent past has drawn the attention of social media sleuths, and Tenerife police are investigating whether his disappearance is connected to any illegal activity.
This occurs in the midst of tremendous internet panic, with many individuals speculating about Jay’s whereabouts and publishing bizarre and completely false speculations.
