The dislike of Louisville is one of the few things that Auburn and Kentucky fans have in common this week. The Kentucky Wildcats’ home gym, Rupp Arena, will host tournament games while they begin their NCAA Tournament campaign against Troy in Milwaukee.
This weekend, Louisville and Tennessee, Kentucky’s two fiercest rivals, will begin their NCAA Tournament journeys in Rupp Arena, and Auburn supporters have an intriguing question.
If Louisville defeats Creighton and Auburn defeats 16-seeded Alabama State on Thursday, the Tigers and Cardinals will meet on Saturday in the Round of 32. The well-known Auburn X page “Auburn Memes” posed the following question because this game will take place in Rupp Arena and would not be on the same day as the Wildcats game: “@ Kentucky fans: Y’all gunna be petty and roll up to root against Louisville? Because that’s fantastic if it is.”
“Absolutely, a lot of us who can’t travel to watch the UK will be there to root against Louisville and Tennessee,” tweeted @PapawWashington, one of the favorable comments made by Kentucky fans.
Although there hasn’t been much animosity between Auburn and Kentucky in recent years, it is obvious that the two fan groups are discussing putting that behind them and forging an alliance against the Louisville Cardinals.
There will undoubtedly be some Kentucky supporters at Rupp Arena to support their team against Louisville and Tennessee, but it will be interesting to see how many show up.
In Rupp Arena, the NCAA Tournament begins Thursday with Louisville, Tennessee, and Auburn. On Friday, Kentucky will play Troy.
