Kate Garraway is standing by her husband Derek Draper’s side in “vigil” following his hospitalization for a “massive heart attack” just in time for Christmas.
According to The Sun, Derek reportedly became more sicker on Monday, and his family is now reportedly praying for a “miracle” in light of his recent health issues. According to a source who spoke to the publication, Derek was “doing well” and in “high spirits” prior to the heart attack, thus his condition was a “shock”.
Since 2020, when the father of two was medically placed in a coma to combat the virus, Derek has been living with COVID-19. Because of the virus’s long-lasting consequences, he needs care around-the-clock.
In a podcast interview, Kate admitted that she never thought her husband was “safe” because of his chronic health issues, which include renal failure and liver issues.
“I think he’s had a big emotional struggle,” she stated. “One of the challenges with Derek is we’ve never felt like he is safe, so every infection and rush back to hospital might be the moment he is taken from us.”
The star of Good Morning Britain talked about her “heartbreak” after seeing him as well. The mother of two said, “It is heartbreaking when he wakes up in the morning.” “Because it gives off the impression that you are witnessing someone who may have been dreaming about his former life. After that, he awakens, and you can see the mist of the war descending upon him.”
When Derek was admitted to the hospital last month, Kate talked candidly about her experience on Loose Women, assuring viewers that Derek’s stay wasn’t “too long” and that it had been “positive” after a referral. “He’s actually back in hospital at the moment, I haven’t talked about this,” she said. But happily, not for horrifying drama.
There have been numerous cancellations and referrals, and he has returned for treatment that he started last year and needed; the second phase of this will presumably result in increased contraction movement. It’s a good thing that he won’t be in the hospital for too long, though.”
The writer disclosed that her spouse was “not doing great” in an interview with Metro during the Pride of Britain Awards in October.
Darcey and Billy, the couple’s two teenage children, have been coping with their “own traumas” as a result of their father’s illness.
During an interview on This Morning, Kate discussed her kids’ coping mechanisms. “He is most alive when they’re around,” she stated. “They are astounding. In some respects, I haven’t really talked about them much, because they’ve gone through their own tragedies, and it’s not my narrative to share.”
