Olympian Mikaela Shiffrin is regarded as one of the world’s, if not the United States’, top Alpine skiers. Over the course of her remarkable career, she has won 18 international medals, including three Olympic ones.
It makes sense that Shiffrin would prefer to keep her personal life somewhat quiet despite her extraordinary celebrity. The 30-year-old, however, shared a unique behind-the-scenes look at her relationship with her fiancé, Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, on Instagram on Wednesday, April 9.
Like Shiffrin, Kilde is a professional alpine skier and hails from Norway. After meeting at a ski camp, the two have been dating for more than three years. In April 2024, they made their engagement public on social media.
Shiffrin posted a number of pictures of herself and Kilde together while they were in Innsbruck, Austria. Stunning snowcapped mountains can be seen in the background of the photographs – a reminder that this is not far from the area where Shiffrin competed just a couple of months ago during the Alpine Ski World Championship.
Given that she had suffered a catastrophic injury in a crash only ten weeks prior, she was eventually content with her fifth-place performance in the tournament.
Returning mid-season at world championships, when everyone is talking about the medals and all the other competitors are fighting and performing at their best, is a strange place to be after eight weeks of surgery and six weeks of lying in bed with a drainage tube. At the time, she stated, “I’m also trying to figure out where I even stand in the sport.”
