Marco Bezzecchi, who returned to the MotoGP paddock at the Australian Grand Prix, stated that he is still experiencing a “lot of pain” and provided an explanation for the crash that caused both him and Marc Marquez to withdraw from the Indonesian race.

Bezzecchi had a rough opening lap at the Indonesian Grand Prix, having made a poor launch from pole position and falling down the order. At Turn 7, he collided with Marquez’s factory Ducati.

The incident resulted in a fracture to the world champion’s right shoulder, while Bezzecchi had to go to a nearby hospital for scans but was subsequently found to have no serious injuries.

After a hearing on Thursday morning, the Aprilia rider received a double long lap penalty for the Australian GP. The stewards ruled that he rode “irresponsibly” and “caused danger” to other competitors.

In his initial public statement following the incident, Bezzecchi acknowledged that the crash resulted from him entering the corner with excessive speed and accepted the stewards’ decision.

“I didn’t want to attempt any overtakes,” he explained. “Eu peguei porque estava mais apertado naquela curva, mas não esperava que ele freasse tanto no final.” He took the corner like this.

“I was at fault; I was following him.” Misjudgment. Error. I was a little too quick.

“I attempted to brake, lift the bike to brake harder, and luckily, I only grazed the rear end of his bike, causing it to slide slightly.”

“The issue was off the track, with the gravel; the step was like this,” the British GP winner clarified. “Otherwise, the outcome could be significantly less for both him and me; the gravel wrecked my body.”

When asked if the organizers ought to substitute gravel with an asphalt run-off at Turn 7, he responded, “I don’t know, ask them.” When we talk about it, they often say that the riders request the gravel.

Describing the terrifying experience in detail, the 26-year-old disclosed that the impact had momentarily caused him to struggle for breath.

“I was always aware. “I stayed down because I couldn’t breathe after the hit, especially in my back,” he recalled.

“Então, eu permaneci ali, tentando esperar o momento em que a respiração voltasse. I don’t know if you’ve ever injured your ribs or back, but you can imagine how it felt. Multiplicado por milhares.”

Bezzecchi stated that he “feels good” upon arriving in Australia, but is still experiencing “a lot of pain, particularly in my back due to the severity of the crash.”

He added, “I can’t begin with a ‘not good’ mood because of this [penalty and fitness]. I must give my all not only on Sunday but also on Friday and Saturday.

“Tomara que meu corpo reaja bem dia após dia, pois essa pista é super rápida e exige muito fisicamente, mas a temperatura ajudará, porque está um pouco fria.”

Não é bom para a dor, mas para a resistência e consistência do corpo. I simply try to work as much as possible during the week so I can make the most of the weekend.
