The BYU basketball team is starting to take shape. Kennard Davis Jr., a transfer from Southern Illinois, committed to BYU on Friday. There aren’t many scholarships left at BYU for the upcoming season now that Davis has joined. We’re predicting the starting lineup and rotation for Kevin Young’s second season today.
The Lineup at the Start
Many fresh faces will be in BYU’s starting lineup. Three of the five starters are predicted to be new as of this writing.
Rob Wright III
Davis, Kennard Jr. AJ Dybansta
Saunders, Richie
Keba Keita
First and foremost, our projections feature Richie Saunders. Although Saunders has not made any announcements regarding his plans to return for the upcoming season, we assume that he will. Saunders’ return would greatly improve the team’s squad for the upcoming campaign. At the Big 12 level, Saunders would be the team’s most seasoned scorer. He can score goals effectively and with little attempts at shots. In 2025โ2026, Saunders might establish himself as one of the greatest to have ever played at BYU.
Five-star transfer from Baylor Rob Wright will undoubtedly start at point guard. Wright was a true freshman at Baylor, scoring 11.5 points per game. He will be a vital member of the BYU team.
The 2026 NBA Draft’s top choice, AJ Dybansta, is also certain to start. You don’t bring in the best talent in the country and not get him started. Dybansta is going to start and might be one of the top college basketball scorers.
Keba Keita will start at center, as expected. As the season went on, Keita continued to improve, and he played a significant role in BYU’s ascent toward the end of the previous campaign. As opposing defenses concentrate on Dybansta, Saunders, and Wright, Keita will receive a lot of lobs near the basket.
In the starting lineup, Kennard Davis Jr. takes the last position. In 2024โ2025, Kennard enjoyed a breakthrough season as a sophomore. His average stats were 16.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.3 steals per game. He was selected to the second team All-Conference and named the Missouri Valley Conference’s most improved player. Not only that, but he might be BYU’s best on-ball defender.
The Rotation
BYU continues to add players to the roster. BYU won’t be as deep as they were the previous year as of this writing. Dominique Diomande, Mihailo Boskovic, and Dawson Baker are the bench contributors.
Baker, Dawson
Boskovic, Mihailo
Diomande Dominique
Next season, Miahilo Boskovic will be a vital member of BYU. At the moment, he is the only significant figure with experience behind Keba Keita. The depth of the front court is currently the most concerning aspect of BYU’s squad. Keita is essential to BYU’s health.
Dawson Baker’s ability to create and go to the rim will give BYU a scoring punch.
Brody Kozlowski and Xavion Stanton are two more young players that might make the starting lineup the next season. In the 2025 recruiting class, Kozlowski was once a four-star prospect, and Stanton is among the country’s best centers. BYU’s depth will feel lot more at ease if both of them are healthy enough to play next season.
