Carol Vorderman ‘snubs GB News offer’ after being sacked from BBC
Carol Vorderman was fired from her BBC Radio Wales hosting position for violating the station’s social media policies, and it has been claimed that she turned down an invitation to appear on GB News.
The 62-year-old former Countdown presenter, who is well-known on social media for her strong opinions regarding the Conservative Party, announced in November that she would be leaving the BBC, where she has been doing her Saturday morning show since 2019.
She had violated the new policies, it was revealed at the time, and “BBC Wales management has decided [she] must leave.”
Now, it’s being said that rival TV station GB News has extended an offer, with the channel’s CEO, Angelos Frangopoulos, allegedly messaging the host and requesting a meeting.
The Mirror was informed by a source that Carol “wouldn’t touch that channel with a barge-pole” and disregarded the message.
Carol confirmed “it’s true” on X, the former name for Twitter, according to another insider, saying, “They seem to have forgotten how vile some of their rhetoric has been about her.”
“There was no firm offer, but we are always open-minded to both left and right voices on the channel,” a source close to GB News told the publication.
This comes after Tory MP and GB News host Lee Anderson wrote an offensive comment about Carol and was accused of “bullying.”
Following a slew of remarks made by Laurence Fox regarding female reporter Ava Evans, which sparked a misogynistic crisis at the channel, Anderson also made problematic remarks.
Carol had written on X: GB News, criticizing Anderson’s interview with Suella Braverman. GB News hired Tory Lee Anderson £100k to “interview” Tory Braverman, however Anderson did not press her on any one issue. She was, in his words, “nailing it.”
“GB News made an effort to present the remainder of the show as a debate, which might be sufficient to convince @ofcom that there was no breach.” Who knows?
While Ofcom acknowledges that it has 12 active investigations into the station, GB News has suspended three presenters in the last two days and is conducting its own inquiry into the Wootton/Fox show. Rocky times.
Anderson wrote, “The sooner we ban single plastics, the better,” in response to Carol.
He seemed to be making reference to both her marital status and attractiveness, and his remarks were widely criticized on the internet.
