The 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina are the goal for Olympic alpine skiing champion Mikaela Shiffrin and her fiancé, Norwegian skier Aleksander Aamodt Kilde. The engaged couple may not be able to support one another in person at the Games, even if they are each other’s staunchest supporters.
Shiffrin disclosed in an exclusive update that she and Kilde are unlikely to be in the same locations at the same time because of the logistical design of the 2026 Olympics, which will see competitions dispersed over multiple Italian regions. The Dolomites will host alpine skiing competitions, with separate mountains and days for the men’s and women’s divisions. The two find it almost impossible to go to one other’s races because of their separation.
“The distances involved and the way the events are organised make it difficult,” Shiffrin added. “We must remain focused on our own competitions even though we want to support one another.”
The pair, who became engaged in 2024 following years of friendship and mutual World Cup experiences, have frequently given each other credit for offering emotional support during the highs and lows of competitive sports. Both athletes are dedicated to continuing to encourage one another through messages, video conversations, and post-race check-ins, despite the difficulty of not being physically present at each other’s races.
Kilde continued, “We understand the importance of having someone on your side.” “We’ll be supporting one another at every turn, even if we can’t be there in person.”
As one of the most accomplished alpine skiers in history, Shiffrin hopes to increase her number of Olympic medals in 2026. Kilde, a speed expert and World Cup champion overall, is also a serious candidate to place on the podium. Even if they must chase it from different mountaintops, the two athletes are committed to the same goal as they intensify their preparations for the Games.
