Similar to fellow former No. 1 Sharapova, Capriati advanced to several Miami Open finals but was never able to win the championship.
In 2001, the American star lost her maiden final after losing to her countrywoman Venus Williams 4-6, 6-1, 7-6(4) in an exciting finals match.
After losing to Serena 7-5, 7-6(4) in the 2002 final, Capriati lost in the final for the third consecutive year in 2003 after falling to the 23-time Grand Slam champion 4-6, 6-4, 6-1.
In 1992, the American reached the semi-finals at the age of 15, but lost in straight sets to eventual champion Arantxa Sanchez Vicario.
