On Saturday, the third and last day of the NFL Draft, the Seattle Seahawks were the busiest team.
In order to acquire a fifth-round and seventh-round pick, they first traded their fourth-round pick to the New England Patriots. Later, they exchanged backup quarterback Sam Howell for five-round picks with the Minnesota Vikings.
Following all of that wrangling, Seattle used the Vikings’ fifth-round pick (the.142 overall pick) to select Rylie Mills, a defensive tackle from Notre Dame.
Mills was the D-Line anchor for a top defensive team that advanced to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game. After leading the Fighting Irish with 8.5 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks, the Second Team All-American tore his right ACL during the CFP Playoffs’ opening round.
Mills was a huge loss, but Notre Dame’s defense continued to play even after he was taken off.
He was predicted to go somewhere in the late second round if he remained healthy. He had a chance to go much deeper into Day 3, though, given that the injury had just occurred and he was unable to train for teams as he needed to.
It remains to be seen if Mills is prepared for the season to begin. In any case, Mills is a monster when he’s well. The Saints may have to wait for him, but he’s worth it.
The nicest part for him was that defensive tackle wasn’t a need choice, and he will have the opportunity to watch and learn from Pro Bowl defensive lineman Leonard Williams. With 11 selections, the Seahawks took several chances in every area.
This shot has the potential to be extremely profitable.
