Golden State may, however, boost the ante in the Western Conference by trading a three-time NBA champion for a Denver Nuggets shooter in free agency.
“Throughout the season, Michael Porter Jr., a star forward for the Denver Nuggets, has been the subject of trade rumours,” Matthew Legros of Empire Sports Media wrote on Monday. “If the Nuggets put his name on the trade block in the summer, the Warriors ought to try to acquire him.”
At one point, Porter Jr. was hailed as a future superstar. In his seven-year career, the Missouri product hasn’t yet seemed to achieve his NBA potential.
“It doesn’t matter; Porter Jr. is averaging 18.3 points, seven rebounds, and 2.5 three-pointers per game on 50.4% field goal shooting and 40% three-point shooting.”
“The Nuggets are a strong contender for the championship. They would probably want a combination of young players to cope with Porter Jr. and veterans who are prepared to contribute. Given that the 6-10 prospect owes more than $38 million over the next two seasons, Golden State may try to entice a third team to make a deal.
Either that or a group comprising Buddy Hield, Moses Moody, Kevon Looney, and a potential first-round pick for Porter Jr. and DeAndre Jordan may try to make such a trade!
There is little doubt that Porter Jr. is among the top three NBA scoring options. The Missouri graduate is skilled at making contested perimeter jumpers with assurance, even though he is not a particularly good space maker.
Porter Jr.’s perfect release and consistent elevation at his best are helpful. Porter Jr.’s early-season output led to trade rumours involving the dependable three-point shooter.
Nonetheless, it’s safe to believe that the Nuggets appreciate Porter Jr.’s offensive contributions given that he made it through the NBA trade season.
However, in an unexpected development, the Warriors might convince Denver to give up Porter Jr. this summer by offering the skilled 6-foot-9 forward Kevon Looney as trade bait.
The Dubs should think about chasing Porter Jr. in the offseason if they want to improve their three-point shooting even more.
