In what is likely Mark Pope’s worst loss of the season and his second consecutive home loss, John Calipari and the Arkansas Razorbacks completely destroyed Mark Pope and the Kentucky Wildcats.
According to the NCAA NET standings, this places Kentucky at 4-4 in the SEC for postseason reasons, meaning the Cats have now officially experienced a “bad” loss. The Razorbacks, 60th in the NET, gave Kentucky a Quad 3 defeat at home.
Losing at home against a conference opponent like Arkansas wouldn’t be a huge deal in a typical situation; this has happened many times before Saturday night.
But for the second consecutive major game at Rupp Arena, Kentucky and Mark Pope just lost a game due to extenuating circumstances.
Any chance of Kentucky finishing in the top four in the SEC tournament is probably gone after today, but that’s just the way things work. Kentucky will almost surely be vying for a top-four seed in the NCAA tournament. If you lose to Vanderbilt, Arkansas, and Georgia, this discussion would not take place.
