Malachi Moreno, a Kentucky native who recently won a State Championship in Rupp Arena, was the only member of the Kentucky Wildcats to be selected for the McDonald’s All-American Game.
Given that Moreno isn’t playing at a prep school, several Kentucky supporters were rather concerned about him and chose to remain at Great Crossing. Some were concerned that because he was only seven feet tall, it would take him longer to become used to competing at the highest level.
In the McDonald’s All-American Game, Moreno was among the best players on the court, thus it was not the case. In addition to grabbing boards, passing the ball, scoring near the basket, and even making three-pointers, Moreno was contesting and blocking shots. Even though Moreno made a three-pointer, he probably won’t use it much in Lexington.
One aspect of Moreno’s game that isn’t discussed enough but was evident in this game is his ability to pass the ball, which is something Coach Pope wants his big men to be able to do.
While contesting shots around the rim, Moreno was also able to defend all over the floor, which was fantastic to watch.
Moreno will be a formidable rookie for Coach Pope’s squad if he can keep improving his rim finishing.
Moreno demonstrated in the McDonald’s All-American Game that he will undoubtedly be a standout player for the Wildcats and play a significant role as a rookie.
Let’s examine the McDonald’s All-American Game corner three that Moreno made flawlessly.
