Fesi Sitake, the wide receivers coach at BYU, made an offer to transfer wide receiver Isaiah Spencer on Friday. Mississippi native Spencer just finished an incredible sophomore campaign at Jackson State. We spoke with Spencer about his offer from BYU.
Spencer attended Jackson State for two years. He recorded 59 receptions for 861 yards throughout that period. In his stellar sophomore campaign, he caught 35 passes for 660 yards and four scores. Since using the transfer site, Spencer has grown to be a highly sought-after transfer prospect.
“One thing that led to my success last year was how I prepared in the offseason to get me to this point,” Spencer stated to BYU On SI.
A few Power Four programs have expressed interest in his sophomore film. On April 23, Spencer declared his intention to use the transfer site. Since then, he has received similar offers from West Virginia, Virginia Tech, Cal, Kentucky, Baylor, Pitt, Toledo, and WKU.
Fesi Sitake, the wide receivers coach at BYU, made the offer after highlighting Spencer’s possible fit in the BYU scheme and the institution’s business school. Spencer was a Jackson State student studying in business administration.
“Coach Sitake made me an offer. Spencer stated, “We had a good conversation about how he will use me in the offense and how they have a good business major.”
Spencer hopes to make an official visit to BYU. “Iโm definitely going get a visit scheduled,” he stated.
Spencer attended Madison Central High School in Madison, Mississippi, where he played football in high school. Spencer didn’t know much about the BYU football program and has no geographical ties to the program because he’s from Mississippi. But he knew that former BYU wide receiver Keelan Marion had left a hole. The Cougars started looking for a transfer wide receiver when wide receiver Keelan Marion signed up for the transfer portal.
Spencer has a list of qualities he wants in his new school because there are so many to pick from. “A school that will help me grow on the field, advance me, and improve me off the field.” and obtain a quality education.
At 6’2, Spencer is a good size, and in 2024, he earned his deep threat certification. Last season, he had six receptions of 40 yards or more, including this 67-yard catch in the Celebration Bowl.
More of his 2024 highlights are shown below. Spencer will still be eligible to attend his next school for two more years.
