Unfortunately, some in the media won’t allow the mostly debunked sign-stealing scandal to be put to bed. Signs had nothing to do with what the Michigan football team did to Alabama in the Rose Bowl. It also had nothing to do with wins over ranked teams in Ohio State, Penn State, and Iowa.
So frankly, it was embarrassing that Jim Harbaugh was asked at a national championship press conference on Wednesday, if he was worried about the Michigan Wolverines having to vacate wins.
The would be beyond ridiculous if the NCAA went that route, because there’s not even proof that a rule was broken as the rule was written. Michigan football would have a great case to take that to court and I believe they would in that instance.
Harbaugh scoffed at the question, rightfully so, and told reporters, “I guess you want to live in the world of rumorville and speculation. We don’t have any time to be doing that right now.”
J.J. McCarthy also addressess sign-stealing, calls out Ohio State
Michigan Wolverines quarterback J.J. McCarthy was also asked about sign-stealing and he responded that “80 percent of college football teams do it.” McCarthy also pointed out that Ohio State stole Michigan football signs in 2018 and 2019. McCarthy did point out that it’s legal but that the Wolverines needed to “even the playing field.”
