Athlon Sports received some frank opinions from a number of SEC coaches regarding the Kentucky football team and head coach Mark Stoops.

“In this NIL and portal era, Stoops doesn’t seem like the guy who’s going to drastically change to win, and it’s starting to show on the field,” one coach remarked.

An other coach finds it difficult to think the Wildcats can compete with South Carolina and Vanderbilt.

An excerpt from Athlon Sports is as follows:

“Unless they hit on every portal guy they brought in and [Zach] Calzada is much better than he was the last time in the league, the formula for Kentucky’s success under [Mark] Stoops isn’t there right now.”

“Last season, they weren’t combative or violent on the lines. They didn’t play like the teams led by Mark Stoops that used to beat you up.

“In this NIL and portal era, Stoops doesn’t seem like the guy who’s going to drastically change to win, and it’s beginning to show on the field.”

“The future of this initiative depends on this year. His amicable deal makes it difficult to remove him, but with the current roster, it’s difficult to believe that they’re keeping up with programs like Vanderbilt and South Carolina, which have evolved over time.
