WASHINGTON, DC: On June 22, the United States launched a series of airstrikes on three of Iran’s nuclear sites as part of Operation Midnight Hammer. It was dubbed “the largest B-2 operational strike in US history” by the Pentagon.

A rumour that former Vice President Kamala Harris reportedly stated, “If we elect Trump, we will be at war within six months,” started to circulate online following the airstrikes. But does this assertion have any merit? Let’s investigate below.

Kamala Harris asserted that “we will be at war within six months if we elect Trump.”
Social media users shared a purported quote and several images of Kamala Harris, complete with graphics and additional writing, in mid-June 2025. The question was, “Was Kamala Harris correct about Trump?”

“We will be at war in six months if we elect Trump.” Kamala Harris

Harris is credited with saying, “If we elect Trump, we will be at war within six months.”

Fact Check: Untrue; there is no proof that Kamala Harris said that.
According to Snopes, there is no proof that Kamala Harris ever stated in public that “if we elect Trump, we will be at war within six months,” hence the allegations claimed in the online rumours are untrue.

Furthermore, according to the fact-checking website, a search for the said quote coupled with Harris’ name on search engines like Google produced no hits from any reliable news sources.

Furthermore, Snopes found no reference to the phrase in transcripts of the Harris-Trump presidential debate or Harris’s comments during the 2024 election cycle.

Kamala Harris did not claim that Trump would lead the United States into war when she used the word “war” in reference to the continuing wars in Gaza and Ukraine during her address accepting the Democratic nomination at the 2024 Democratic National Convention on August 22.

Trump, she said, “threatened to abandon NATO” and “encouraged Vladimir Putin to invade our allies.”

“I will never hesitate to take whatever action is necessary to defend our forces and our interests against Iran and Iran-backed terrorists,” she also said, the site reported.

Kamala Harris would not have carried out Operation Midnight Hammer, according to a former Bill Clinton official.
Former President Bill Clinton aide Jamie Metzl, who worked on the National Security Council, commended Trump’s successful airstrikes on Iran and asserted that Kamala Harris probably wouldn’t have had the “courage” to approve such a mission if she had been president.

Metzl posted to X, “I am not a fan of many of Donald Trump‘s actions, but I will speak openly and honestly when he takes bold steps defending America’s interests, as he did tonight.”

Even while I disagree with many of Donald Trump’s policies, I will speak candidly and openly when he takes decisive action to protect American interests, like he did today.

“I’m not a blind tribalist and am perfectly comfortable praising President Trump for bold and courageous actions in support of America’s core national interests, as he took last night,” he said in a separate post.

Under President Clinton, I was a member of the National Security Council. I served as the Senate Foreign Relations Committee’s Deputy Staff Director under Joe Biden. I supported Kamala Harris and have been outspoken in my criticism of President Trump’s several risky and undemocratic policies.

However…

“Although I think it would have been better for our democracy, society, and economy, as well as for helping the most vulnerable people in the United States and around the world, to elect Kamala Harris — I also think VP Harris would not have had the courage or fortitude to take such an essential step as the president took last night,” he continued.
