Gunner Stockton, who started against Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl, and Ryan Puglisi, a redshirt freshman and four-star recruit, are vying for the quarterback position at Georgia. Hale and many others thought Stockton would win the job because of his performance, but it’s still up in the air.
After Carson Beck, who is ranked in tier 1B (labelled “So hot right now”) of this ranking, moved to Miami to take Cam Ward’s position as the first pick, the quarterback competition ensued. Hale used this statistical comparison to highlight how Beck and Stetson Bennett have excelled under Georgia’s system:
Beck/Bennett: 8.84 yards per attempt, 67% completions, and 80.3 QBR All other Kirby Astute quarterback: 7.84 yards per attempt, 66.3 QBR, and 62% completions
In 2024, 2023, and 2022, Georgia was ranked in tier 1, tier 3, and tier 2A, respectively. The shoes that Stockton or Puglisi must fill are demonstrated.

The quarterback room at Georgia moves up to the same level as Ole Miss, Alabama, and Oregon. The anticipated starters for each of these teams have been patiently waiting for their turn, and unlike Georgia, all three had a quarterback selected in the 2025 NFL draft. While Dante Moore backed up Dillon Gabriel in Oregon for a year after transferring from UCLA, Austin Simmons of Ole Miss and Ty Simpson of Alabama waited for two years behind Jalen Milroe and Jaxson Dart.
Hale places Georgia’s quarterback room in a tie for 25th place with Ole Miss, Alabama, and Oregon. Hale covered all 136 FBS quarterback scenarios and 20 ties in total.
